<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent steering force from being made heavier than manual steering by shutting off a brake current relative to earth fault of a motor wire, and to enhance safety. <P>SOLUTION: An electric power steering device includes: a motor drive circuit 706 constituted by a plurality of switching elements 706a-706b; an on-vehicle power source 10 connected between input terminals of the motor drive circuit 706; and a motor 8 connected between output terminals of the motor drive circuit 706 and applying auxiliary force to a steering system.
