PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding apparatus which prevents a scattering coolant from intruding into between a rotary shaft member and a bearing. SOLUTION: The grinding apparatus 1 is equipped with: a substantially disk-shaped grinding stone T attached to a grinding stone shaft member 13; and a grinding stone housing 12 which is substantially box-shaped and stores the grinding stone, and at least the part of which is opened. The apparatus 1 grinds a workpiece while supplying a coolant in the vicinity of a contact part of the grinding stone and the workpiece W. On the inner wall surface M1 on a supporting side which is a surface crossing the direction of axial direction of the grinding stone shaft member in the inner wall of the grinding stone housing, and where the grinding stone shaft member is supported, a grinding stone cover 14 is provided so that: it encloses the grinding stone shaft member; and it separates a space between the inner wall surface on the supporting side and the grinding stone, in the grinding stone housing, into an shaft surrounding space K1 around the grinding stone shaft member and an outer peripheral space K2 being the outer peripheral part of the shaft surrounding space. A communicating hole communicating the shaft surrounding space and the outer peripheral space is provided at the lower end in the grinding stone cover, and a cylindrical part extending downward from the communicating hole is formed around the communicating hole.
