The present invention discloses the use of the protein shown as (a) or (b) in the preparation of medicaments for promoting growth of cartilage tissues or treating diseases of cartilage tissues, the use of the protein served as factors for promoting chondrocyte growth, and the medical device containing the protein1 (a) the protein with amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO 1; (b) the protein having at least 60% of homology with the amino acid sequence of (a) and having the activity of promoting proliferation of chondrocytes.
