PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a vehicle traveling control device making possible follow-up travel restraining one's own vehicle's unstable behavior by accurately detecting a preceding vehicle's unstable driving state, alarming the driver, performing follow-up travel with a longer inter-vehicle distance than a usual case, and making lane changing by avoiding the preceding vehicle. SOLUTION: The vehicle traveling control device, which controls the one's own vehicle's vehicle speed so as to make follow-up travel maintaining the inter-vehicle distance of the one's own vehicle to the preceding vehicle, includes: a preceding vehicle lateral location detecting means which detects the lateral location as a location of the preceding vehicle in the lane width direction; a preceding vehicle lateral location frequency analyzing means which makes frequency analysis of time-series data of the preceding vehicle lateral locations detected by the preceding vehicle lateral location detecting means; and a preceding vehicle driving state determining means which determines the preceding vehicle's driving state from the frequency analysis result of the preceding vehicle lateral locations analyzed by the preceding vehicle lateral location frequency analyzing means.
