PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traveling piping inspection apparatus capable of continuously inspecting a pipeline, having an internal protrusive obstacle from inside in a nondestructive manner because a conventional art, such as, an inspection pig is prevented from moving by the internal protrusive obstacle of the pipeline, making it difficult to inspect from inside in the nondestructive manner, and a traveling piping inspection method. SOLUTION: The traveling piping inspection apparatus traveling in the piping to inspect the pipeline from inside, retracts a sensor likely to collide with the obstacle, only when passing by the protrusive obstacle, such as a plug, returns the sensor after passing, thus allowing an almost full inspection continuously except the obstacle. Furthermore, addition of a means incidental thereto constitutes the traveling piping inspection apparatus, capable of implementing the inspection in a self-contained manner, and the traveling piping inspection method is constituted.
