Disclosed is a submerged arc welding method for a steel plate, which is suitably adopted in welding pipe making of a large diameter steel pipe such as a UOE steel pipe or a spiral steel pipe. Specifically disclosed is a method in which the welding conditions are set so that the cross-sectional area (S1) of an inner surface welding metal and the cross-sectional area (S2) of an outer surface welding metal satisfy the expressions (1): 0.40=(S1+ S2)/t2=0.80, (2): S1/t2=0.35, and (3): S2/t2=0.45 when submerged arc welding of a steel plate is carried out from the inner and outer surfaces, where t is the plate thickness of the steel plate (mm), S1 is the cross-sectional area of the inner surface welding metal excluding the part which overlaps the outer surface welding metal after the outer surface welding (mm2), and S2 is the cross-sectional area of the outer surface welding metal (mm2). |
