OPERATING POINTS FOR SPECTRUM MANAGEMENT IN DIGITAL SUBSCRIBER LINES

A method of determining a number of operating points for spectrum manage- ment of a plurality of digital subscriber lines in a communications network, the method comprising the steps of: determining (302) optimization criteria (Oi) for the digital subscriber lines; determining (304) crosstalk gains (Gi) for the digital subscriber lines; determining (306) an initial population (Pi) of operating points (x1,..., xZ) where each of the operating points comprises importance ratings for each digital subscriber line of the plurality of digital subscriber lines; calculating (308) new values of crosstalk and power spectrum densities (S) for the digital subscriber lines, by executing (309) spectrum balancing for each operating point until the optimization criteria are fulfilled; calculating (312) a new population of operating points, by executing (313) an evolutionary algorithm; and iteratively performing (312) the steps of calculating (308, 312) until a predefined stopping criterion is fulfilled.
