<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure compatibility with an existing viewing reproduction environment by allowing a change in frame rate that reflects the intention of a photographer. <P>SOLUTION: An imaging part 10 outputs a video signal at a frame rate higher than a standard frame rate. During zoom operation or in a period including periods before and after the zoom operation, the video signal from the imaging part 10 is recorded in a recording medium (48) at a high recording frame rate. During the period other than the above, the video signal is recorded in the recording medium (48) at the standard frame rate. A recording frame rate and zoom operation information are recorded as metadata in the recording medium (48).
