摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the time necessary for detecting a failure on a path or a failure of a device on the other end of the line. <P>SOLUTION: In a path failure detection method, a layer 2 switch 10 stores a learning table in which an address of a transmission destination server 30 is associated with an aging timer value showing the time elapsed after a frame is finally received from the transmission destination server 30. In addition, when receiving the frame from a transmission source server 20, the layer 2 switch 10 acquires an aging timer value corresponding to a destination address set in the received frame from the learning table. The layer 2 switch 10 further transmits an aging timer value notification frame in which the acquired aging timer value is set to the transmission source server 20.
