PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an activated joining method and apparatus more efficient than conventional method and apparatus. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing a metal clad strip, a first metallic strip and a second metallic strip are transferred at a constant feed rate, the surfaces of the first metallic strip and the second metallic strip are activated by imparting impinging energy from an activating source to a first main region to be activated to the first metallic strip and a second main region to be activated to the second metallic strip and they are joined in the joining regions. The method includes a process where the impinging energy is additionally imparted to both a first assistant region to be activated which is at least a partial region of the region between the first main region to be activated and the joining region and a second assistant region to be activated where is at least a partial region of the region between the second main region to be activated and the joining region and both of the ratio of the integrated energy in the first assistant region to be activated to the integrated energy in the first main region to be activated and the ratio of the integrated energy in the second assistant region to be activated to the integrated energy in the second main region to be activated are taken as 20-50%.
