PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain a rocker arm from contacting with a stopped member, while restraining a mechanism (gear) from getting large. SOLUTION: This variable valve gear for transmitting an action force of a cam to a valve is designed to change the valve opening characteristic of the valve by switching a connection/separation state to/from between the first rocker arm and the second rocker arm. The first rocker arm is penetrated through with a rocker shaft supported by the second rocker arm, and the first rocker arm is supported swingably by the rocker shaft. One end side of the second rocker arm is supported to the cylinder head of an internal combustion engine under a swingable state, by a support means. A valve abutting part is arranged in the other end side of the second rocker arm. A distance from the center of a roller to the axial center of the rocker shaft is shorter than the distance the fulcrum of the second rocker arm in the support means. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
