The gear pump (1) has a hollow wheel (9) rotatably mounted in a pump housing (5). A pump pinion gear (11) eccentrically meshes with the hollow wheel. A sickle (13) is arranged between the hollow wheel and the pinion gear, and is associated with the pump housing. A low pressure side (17) is separated from a high pressure side (15) by the sickle. A delimited pressure chamber (23) is provided between an inner wall (7) of the pump housing and a cylindrical outer surface (25) of the hollow wheel, where the pressure chamber is associated with the high pressure side and constitutes an angular range.
