The heatable pipe (1) has an inner tube (3) formed of polymer material and a sheathing (4) surrounding the inner tube. An electric heat conductor (5) is provided for heating a medium present in the inner tube. The heat conductor extends over a portion of the pipe length. The heat conductor is arranged between the inner tube and the sheathing so that the heat conductor is fixed in its position through the sheathing. The heat conductor is arranged parallel to the longitudinal axis of the inner tube. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a pipe.
