PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lateral sealing method and a lateral sealing device capable of preventing the generation of a pinhole and a wrinkle in a package in which a large amount of a content is filled.

SOLUTION: In the lateral sealing device, there are formed on a seal surface of a lateral sealing roll 7 a band-like seal part 1a constituting a lateral seal and a circular or oblique corner seal part 1b formed at each of both ends of the band-like seal part. Heat sealing is conducted so that the sealing pressure of the seal surface of the circular or oblique corner part is lower than the sealing pressure of the seal surface of the band-like seal part.
