<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce only super-resolution reproduction signals by canceling normal-resolution reproduction signals, and to reproduce high-quality data from a super-resolution disk containing both super-resolution and normal-resolution reproduction signals. <P>SOLUTION: An optical head device has optical members (A1, A2) that block or attenuate a peripheral portion in a track direction of a returning light beam reflected at an information recording layer of a super-resolution optical disk to which a super-resolution mask layer (5a) having nonlinear light absorption property or nonlinear light transmission property is added, and a light receiving element (27) that converts the amount of the returning light beam blocked or attenuated at the optical members into an electrical signal to detect a reproduction signal of the optical disk.
