PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated metallic pigment which is excellent in storage stability of a water-based coating material and also in moisture resistance of a coated film when it is used in the water-based coating material. SOLUTION: The surface coated metallic pigment includes a basic particle and one or more coated layers formed on the surface of the basic particle. The outermost layer of the coated layers is constituted by a first compound obtained by polymerizing one or more kinds of monomers or oligomers each having at least one polymerizable double bond, and one or more kinds of surface modifying agents are bonded to the surface of the outermost layer. The surface modifying agent is a monomer or an oligomer having a bridged ring structure containing 9-12 carbon atoms and at least one polymerizable double bond. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
