INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE WITH TWO HYDRAULICALLY ACTUATED INTAKE VALVES WITH DIFFERENT RETURN SPRINGS FOR EACH CYLINDER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cause a swirl motion of air fed into an engine cylinder, which allows to improve the air-fuel mixing. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine includes at least two intake valves 7 with every engine cylinder for respectively arranging a return spring means 9 for pressing toward a closing position. The intake valves 7 are controlled via a hydraulic driving system including a master cylinder having a piston 16 operably connected to a tappet 15 via the tappet 15 by a single cam 14 of an engine camshaft 11 and two hydraulic actuators connected by hydraulic pressure to a common pressure chamber C of the master cylinder in relation to the two intake valves 7. The return spring means 9 associated to the intake valves 7 of the same engine cylinder has a predetermined mutually different preload and/or rigidity so that the intake valves of the respective cylinders have a mutually different lift profile.
