A data processing device having a display unit, a position sensor unit and an input control unit is provided. The display unit displays an option for operation. The position sensor unit detects an orientation of a linearly shaped pointer put in a front space of a screen of the display unit, and detects a position of a tip of the pointer. The input control unit identifies, upon the position sensor unit detecting the tip of the pointer as being in front of the option displayed on the screen of the display unit, the option as being selected. The input control unit displays the selected option in a form different from a form in which another option is displayed. The input control unit scrolls, upon the position sensor unit detecting a change of the orientation of the pointer, content displayed on the screen of the display unit.
