A method for modifying colloidal or colloidally-disperse liquid systems with the aid of electrical and magnetic fields, involves exposing the system to an electrical field and a magnetic field which are both generated in the form of pulses and are out-of-phase with one another. An independent claim is included for apparatus for carrying out the above method, in which an oscillating circuit (5) is subjected to pulses from a pulse generator (3) and this circuit then generates essentially rectangular magnetic fields in a coil circuit and electrical fields by means of electrodes (6a, 6b).
