<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device and a method for compensating polarization mode dispersion with high accuracy. <P>SOLUTION: A polarization controller 1 controls the polarized state of input light so that a portion of wavelength components of the input light becomes a first polarized state. A spectroscope 2 separates light output from the polarization controller 1 into a plurality wavelength components. The polarization controller 3 uses a liquid crystal modulation element to control the plurality of wavelength components in a second polarized state respectively. A phase shaping part 4 controls the phases of the respective wavelength components whose polarized states are controlled by the polarization controller 3, respectively. A multiplexer 5 multiplexes a plurality of wavelength components output from the phase shaping part 4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
