<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can automatically adjusts the position where toner images on a transfer belt are transferred onto paper, without complicating the structure thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus samples the values of density detection signals inputted from toner density detection sensors 53 and 54, and counts a remaining patterns length counter, thereby calculating the remaining pattern length L1 (mm) of a remaining pattern 62. Then, based on a dimensional difference between the remaining pattern length L1 (mm) and a preset reference value, an image synchronous timing Tt for determining the position, where the writing of an image starts, is adjusted.
