Disclosed is a display apparatus capable of displaying such that a feeling of strangeness is not given to viewers or such that the feeling of strangeness is reduced in a seamless display. Specifically disclosed is a display apparatus (1) that displays images on the basis of an image signal DAT, which comprises a display panel (2) that is provided with a display area in which a matrix of a plurality of display elements for displaying the images is disposed and a frame area, in which the display elements are not disposed, formed at an end portion of the display panel; a backlight device that surface-emits light to the rear face of the display area, which is the face on the reverse side of the display surface of the display area; and a light guiding element (4) that is formed on the display panel (2) and that guides part of light emitted from the display elements to the frame area by changing the light path. The brightness of the backlight device in the light emitting surface per unit area is higher in an end portion (A2) of the display area in which the light guiding element is formed than in a general display area (A1) in which the light guiding element is not formed in the display area.
