PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of an image reading apparatus without reducing the processing speed of a reading control section when the image reading apparatus is in a stable standby state. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus is equipped with: an image reading section having a light source and an image sensor; a reading control section; and an operation clock adjusting section for adjusting an operation clock supplied to the image sensor and the reading control section. When the image reading section is in a standby mode, the operation clock adjusting section adjusts the operation clock so that a mask period as a stop period of the operation clock to the image sensor is prolonged compared with the operation clock in a usual operation mode of the image reading section while maintaining the frequency of the operation clock to the reading control section and the image sensor.
