PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording liquid storage container preventing breakage of a head by stopping ink feed even if liquid level detection fails, and notifying an abnormal state of over-charge of the recording liquid before head breakage. SOLUTION: The recording liquid storage container which feeds the recording liquid to the recording head discharging droplets of the recording liquid from a nozzle and is replenished with the recording liquid from a main tank of an apparatus body, includes: a recording liquid detection means detecting the recording liquid at an upper part of the recording liquid storage container; an atmosphere releasing means opening/closing an atmosphere releasing path for releasing a recording liquid containing part of the recording liquid storage container to the atmosphere; a float means moving following recording liquid level rise when the recording liquid is over-charged between the atmosphere releasing path and recording liquid containing part; a sealing means made of an elastic body cutting off communication of liquid between the atmosphere releasing means and recording liquid containing part; and a strain detecting sensor means detecting the strain on a wall of the atmosphere releasing path side to which the upper part of the float means moving following the recording liquid level rise comes in contact.
