PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a steel wire by which lubricating performance is demonstrated sufficiently in the case of drawing a wire, annealing atmosphere is controlled easily, and the press-fixing and load shifting of a steel wire coil are prevented from generating. SOLUTION: The method includes a process where the steel wire is obtained by performing wire drawing by using a lubricant the mass reducing rate of which is≥75% at 400°C and≤97% at 600°C when heating the lubricant at the temperature rising rate of 10°C/min in the atmosphere, and a process where a steel wire coil obtained by winding the steel wire is charged into a continuous annealing furnace in the state of vertical placing and preheating in an oxidizing atmosphere in the temperature range of 400-600°C and successive annealing in the temperature range of 600-800°C.
