The invention relates to a method (10) and a computer system (50) for projecting emission of at least one undesirable gas over a predefined time period within a predefined area. The method (10) includes estimating (12) an average distance travelled by an individual in the predefined time period, estimating (22) an average emission of the gas associated with the travel over the distance, estimating (30) an average emission of the gas due to household energy usage of the individual, and estimating (40) an absorption capacity of the natural environment within the predefined area to absorb the gas. The method (10) further includes calculating (42) a projected nett individual emission of the gas based on the estimated average emission of the gas due to travel and energy usage less the estimated absorption capacity of the natural environment.
