The control device (22) comprises a control unit (28) for controlling the field equipment (10) and a separate monitoring unit (30). The control unit is arranged for selective engaging of a working mode and a sleep mode. The control unit is arranged to send a deactivation signal to the monitoring unit before engaging the sleep mode. The monitoring unit is arranged to bring the control unit into the working mode after receiving an activation signal. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for controlling a field equipment; (2) a program element for a control device for a field equipment; and (3) a computer readable medium for storing the program element.
