According to one embodiment, a program playback apparatus comprises a playback controller (110) configured to execute skip playback from a position a prescribed skip time ahead of a current playback position in response to one skip instruction during playback of a program, and to execute replay from a position a prescribed replay time back from the current playback position in response to one replay instruction during playback of the program, and a registration module (120) configured to register a successive skip time corresponding to successive skip instructions during playback of the program, and to register a first successive skip updated time, which is calculated based on a successive skip time and at least one of successive replay times corresponding to a successive skip repeat instruction and at least one of successive replay instructions which follow the successive skip repeat instruction, in place of the registered successive skip time.
