[Class 38 (v)] [See also Groups XI and I] In an electric boundary beacon light for airports in which a bollard 18 is so supported on a base 1 as to be easily upset when struck by an aeroplane &c. and is provided on the under - surface with a spring-pressed contact, or contacts, k<1> normally engaging a contact, or contacts, k on the base, the, or each, contact k is connected to the supply mains through a spring-controlled switch 2 adapted to be closed by the bollard in its upright position. As shown, the switch comprises two oppositelydisposed spring-pressed plungers 3 adapted to be bridged by an insulated rotatable ring 8 on a pivoted spring-pressed arm 4 when the latter is depressed by a pin 19 on the bollard through the medium of a rod 13 slidable in the guide 17 on the base. The rod 13 may project above the top of the base and the pin 19 be omitted. The conical seatings 25, 15 on the bollard and base are arranged so that contact takes place over a narrowly limited area. The male and female seatings on the bollard and base may be reversed or replaced by ball-and-socket seatings. A drain channel 20 opening to an outlet 21 prevents rain from reaching the contacts k. A double pole switch may be used in place of two single pole switches. |
