PURPOSE: A shock absorbing apparatus for a railway vehicle is provided to minimize damage to a railway vehicle and human life by smoothly absorbing an impact applied to the railway vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A shock absorbing apparatus(1) comprises a guide member, a punch member(20) and a shock absorbing member(30). The punch member is fixed to the front end of the guide member and moved backward along the guide member when applied with a physical impact from the front. The shock absorbing member absorbs the impact energy when the punch member is moved backward.
