447,733. Vehicle spring-suspensions; axles. AUTO UNION AKT.-GES., Chemnitz, Germany. Feb. 13, 1936, No. 4414. Convention date, Feb. 13, 1935. [Class 108 (ii)] To improve riding qualities the front wheels 8, 9 are independently sprung by means of two side-by-side transverse springs 4, 5 and upper links 10 while the rear rigid axle is supported from the frame 1, 2 by longitudinal springs 25, 26 while the axle gear 27 is mounted on a transverse member 31 of the frame and drives the wheels 22, 23 through shafts 28, 29 having universal couplings 30, 31, 30<1>, 311. The rear axle 24 is curved downwardly and rearwardly at its middle part to clear the axle gearing 27 and permit the springs 25, 26 to seat thereon below the shafts 28, 29. The upper link 10 of the front suspension is made shorter than the effective length of the springs 4, 5 to keep the gauge of the wheels constant during deflection the link 10 and the springs being connected to an axle carrier 6 through rubber bushings, the link 10 being pivoted on a bolt 12 which is adjustably clamped to the carrier 6. The inner end of the upper link 10 is pivoted in a rubber bushing and buffers 15, 16 and shock-absorbers 20 are provided. |
