[Also in Group XXVI] In a weighting roller for a textile drafting mechanism comprising a boss 7 rotatable on an anti-friction bearing 3 on the roller shaft 1, the bearing is protected against ingress of dirt and fly by a thin ring 11 sealing the clearance between the boss and the shaft and held against a shoulder 10 on the shaft by plastic deformation of the shaft. The ring is pressed against the shoulder 10 by a collar 13 formed by material displaced by rolling an annular groove 12 in the shaft after the ring is assembled thereon. To provide, further protection another groove 14 is rolled in the shaft at a position between the ring 11 and the bearing so that a portion of the shaft has a small clearance 15 with the outer race 4 of the bearing. |
