The lamp has a fluorescent tube (10) that is electrically connected with a control circuit which is mounted in a base. A protection device (40) such as heating fuse, heat fused switch or heat sensitive switch electrically connected with the control circuit, is operable to shunt an electric power supplied to the control circuit when a temperature of the control circuit is raised to a preset temperature value so that the operation of fluorescent tube is stopped.
