An apparatus and method for long line fishing is disclosed. The apparatus includes a long line, at least one land based receiver for the long line, and a flotation device with a receiver for the long line. The apparatus has a transfer mechanism, such as a reel, which is configured to, in use, transfer a portion of the long line between the floatation device and the land-based receiver.
