PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for descaling a steel sheet, capable of properly descaling a steel sheet without remaining of scales. SOLUTION: The region (an interference affecting region) where passing and interference of laterally-flowing water 15 directly affect descaling performance is eliminated by adjusting a swing angleγof a descaling nozzle 12. Namely, the width of an interference region is made equal to that of an overlap region. The horizontal component of an outer edge line 14a in the left side of spray water 14 (an outer edge line 15a in the left side of the laterally-flowing water 15) is made parallel to the advancing direction of a material to be rolled by adjusting the swing angleγof the nozzle 12.
