<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner for obtaining high-quality images with superior color reproducibility, less difference in gloss and durability of images hardly causing offset, and to provide the toner for stably forming images for an extended period of time with gloss uniformity in an image part and in a non-image part on normal paper in an inexpensive process without causing offset. <P>SOLUTION: The toner contains a resin (a), wherein the resin (a) has a polyhydroxycarboxylic acid skeleton formed from an optically active monomer, the polyhydroxycarboxylic acid skeleton has a weight average molecular weight of from 7,000 to 60,000, the proportion of the polyhydroxycarboxylic acid skeleton in the whole binder resin of the toner ranges from 10 to 90 mass%, and the optical purity X (%) of the polyhydroxycarboxylic acid skeleton in terms of monomer components represented by X(%)=¾X(L-isomer)-X(D-isomer)¾ is not more than 80%.
