PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery in which an internal short circuit of a wound electrode is controlled, and to provide a method of manufacturing the battery capable of controlling the internal short circuit of the wound electrode. SOLUTION: The battery 1 includes the wound electrode 40 having a positive electrode wound part 44 in which a positive electrode active material un-coated part 13 of the positive electrode plate 10 is wound around with a gap S1 in diameter direction of the wound electrode 40, a positive electrode spacer 16 arranged in the gap S1 of the positive electrode wound part 44, a negative electrode wound part 46 in which a negative electrode active material un-coated part 23 of the negative electrode plate 20 is wound around with a gap S2 in diameter direction of the wound electrode 40, a negative electrode spacer (a first negative electrode spacer 26 and a second negative electrode spacer 27) arranged in the gap S2 of the negative electrode wound part 46, and a power generation part 42 which is located between the positive electrode wound part 44 and the negative electrode wound part 46, and in which the positive electrode plate 10, the negative electrode plate 20, and a separator 30 are wound around; a positive electrode current collector member 71 welded to the positive electrode wound part 44; and a negative electrode current collector member 72 welded to the negative electrode wound part 46.
