PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method for producing a coating material stable in physical properties and having an excellent performance in a simple process in a short time. SOLUTION: The method for producing the coating material comprises a preliminarily stirring process of adding a solvent 12 to a polymer material 10 and then stirring the mixture with an agitator or the like, and a stirring process of adding additives 14 to the resultant mixture liquid, and further stirring the mixture with a stirrer. In the stirring process, materials to be stirred, namely the mixture of the polymer material 10, the solvent 12, and the additives 14 is sheared, for example, at a shear speed of≥100,000 per second. By the stirring process, many fine particles prepared by mixing the component of the polymer material 10 with the components of the additives 14 in a constant ratio can be uniformly dispersed in the solvent 12, to produce the coating material 20.
