PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element having a lower driving voltage. SOLUTION: The organic EL element includes a first electrode layer, a first electron injection layer making contact with the first electrode layer to transport electrons, a first electron hole transport layer to transport electrons and holes while containing an organic luminescent layer, a hole injection layer existing between the first electron injection layer and the first electron hole transport layer, making contact with the first electron injection layer and the first electron hole transport layer, and taking in electrons from the first electron hole transport layer, and a blocking layer to block electrons or holes in contact with the first electron hole transport layer.
