摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a failure detector for an exhaust gas recirculation device, assuring a high sensing accuracy capable of significantly increasing the frequency of executing the failure detecting process. SOLUTION: The failure detector for the exhaust gas recirculation device 50 to recirculate part of the exhaust gas to the suction pipe 7 via an EGR valve 52 is to detect a failure on the basis of the valve operating condition and a change in the recirculating gas temperature gamthg when any failure occurs in the EGR device 50, and includes a first determining unit 31 which determines whether the first condition for the EGR device 50 to be normal are met or not, if the EGR valve 52 is open and the recirculating gas temperature gamthg is at or above the first set temperature thg1, and determines suspension when the first condition is not met, a history holding unit 32 to store and hold the determination of suspension is made by the first determining unit 31 as a suspension history, and a second determining unit 33 to determine whether the second condition for the EGR device 50 to be in failure is met or not when a suspension history is stored and held in the history holding unit 32.
