<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image display quality by reducing black luminance of a display image and improving contrast, and by displaying gradation of a dark region in more detail in the display image, while preventing the occurrence of a non-light cell. <P>SOLUTION: In an initialization period of a specific cell initialization sub-field, a scanning electrode to which a compulsion initialization waveform causing initialization discharge in a discharge cell is applied and a scanning electrode to which a non-initialization waveform which does not cause initialization discharge in the discharge cell is applied are mixed, and in a selection initialization sub-field, a sustain pulse is not applied to a display electrode pair, and a fine light emission sub-field exists in which tilt voltage rising from a base potential to the prescribed potential is applied to all scanning electrodes, a write-in pulse is not applied to the discharge cell to which the writing pulse is applied in the writing period of any sub-field on and after the fine light emission sub-field, in the writing period of the fine light emission sub-field. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
