PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dioxazine violet pigment small in an average primary particle diameter, to provide a method for producing the same, to provide a color filter having blue color pixel portions giving liquid crystal displays capable of giving high contrasts and high brightness, when used as the color filter, and to provide the dioxazine violet pigment giving the color filters. SOLUTION: There are provided the dioxazine violet pigment capable of being preferably used for the color filters, characterized in that a pigment average primary particle diameter determined on the basis of a small angle X-ray scattering method is 5 to 18 nm; and the color filter containing the same.
