<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device capable of reliably preventing the door-opened travel of an elevator by a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: The elevator device includes a car 2 for moving up and down in a hoistway 1 of the elevator, a main rope 4 for suspending the car 2, a hoisting machine 6 having a drive sheave 12 with the main rope 4 wound around thereon and a brake device 17 operated when the car 2 lands to block the rotation of the drive sheave 12, and a car sash pulley 7 arranged rotatably in the car 2. A rope stopping device 13 is installed at the hoisting machine 6, and when the car 2 lands, the rope stopping device 13 is operated to prevent the main rope 4 wound around the drive sheave 12 from moving to the drive sheave 12.
