PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means which has both a quick action and a long period sustaining property, achieves the effective wholly control of microorganisms, and controls various microorganisms. SOLUTION: There is provided an antimicrobial compositions based on the synergistic combination of 2-methyl-3-isothiazolone as the first ingredient and benzyl alcohol as the second ingredient, having a first ingredient/second ingredient weight ratio of 1/0.13 to 1/32 or 1/80 to 1/1,600, and substantially not containing a halogenated 3-isothiazolone.
