The method involves generating a magnetic retention force in a magnetic circuit for the magnetic component during the process with magnet system (1) suspended from a transverse. Magnet system comprises pair pole shoes (2,3) to form an air gap (6). The magnetic retention force is adjusted for the ferromagnetic component by a definite air gap between pole shoe and ferromagnetic component for the ferromagnetic component. The definite air gap is generated by a distance change between the pole shoe and the flat sheet by magnetic or hydraulic adjusting element. An independent claim is also included for a device for retaining, lifting and transporting of ferromagnetic components, particularly flat sheets from a stack.
