The safety device has a blocking element (10) which is adapted to reduce the impact energy in such a manner that the impact energy is transferred to a carrier support, particularly a cross bar of the motor vehicle. The blocking element is firmly or pivotedly coupled with a holding element. The holding element is firmly connected with the carrier support, particularly the cross bar and has a bending edge. The bending edge cooperates with the blocking element for energy-absorbable deformation.
