<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a boron carbide sintered compact using a water-soluble resol type phenol resin, performing low environmental load, and having denseness and high-specific rigidity, and to provide a method of production thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The boron carbide sintered compact is produced by mixing boron carbide as a main component, the resol type phenol resin, a carbon powder and a dispersant, followed by sintering the mixture. The sintered compact additionally containing zirconia, is also provided. Where the total mass of carbon formed by carbonizing the boron carbide and the resol type phenol resin, and the carbon powder is 100 pts.mass, the carbon powder is 2-10 pts.mass and the amount of carbon formed by carbonizing the resol type phenol resin is 1-5 pts.mass. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
