PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inverter capable of automatically adjusting the value of a compensation voltage in compensating a dead time.

SOLUTION: A controller 2 of the inverter 3 includes: a dead time non-linear operation detecting section for detecting the non-linear operation of the dead time; a linear control section (PI control section) for executing linear operation while maintaining the result of the last calculation during a predetermined time when the dead time non-linear operation detecting section detects the non-linear control operation; a dead time compensating section 22 for calculating the value of a switching function consisting of a result of calculation of the PI control and a change amount of an output current, determining an operation mode on the basis of the value of the switching function and compensating the dead time corresponding to the operation mode; and an error voltage automatic adjusting section 23 for automatically adjusting a positive or negative error voltage in response to the operation mode in the dead time compensating section 22.
