PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium that efficiently heats the medium and attains a radiation diameter of a laser beam in the magnetic recording medium for recording information by a heat-assisted recording method. SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording medium 4 used for the heat-assisted recording method, the magnetic recording medium 4 is irradiated with the laser beam to partially heat the medium, and a magnetic field is applied from an external part to the part whose coercive force is lowered by heating, for recording. The magnetic recording medium includes at least a heat radiation layer 41 provided on a substrate 40 side of the magnetic recording medium 4, a recording layer 46 provided on the surface side of the magnetic recording medium 4, and a heat holding layer 50 provided between the heat radiation layer 41 and the recording layer 46. The heat holding layer 50 has an effective refractive index lower than that of the recording layer 46 and is constituted of a member whose temperature diffusion ratio, determined by specific heat, density and thermal conductivity, higher than that of glass and lower than that of metal. In a material having a high temperature diffusion ratio, the temperature diffusion ratio can be lowered by using a porous structure and a granular structure. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
