PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a program for accessing target equipment to automatically recognize a device identifier assigned to the target equipment. SOLUTION: A device 100 or a method executed by the device is provided having an interface part 120, a host part 110, and a reset means 133a which switches the investigation target equipment 130 to either a reset state or a reset release state. In the reset state, the device records the system log information and switches from the reset state to the reset release state. In the reset releaser state, the device records the system log information, determines whether or not the system log information in the reset state is different from the system log information in the reset release state, and obtains the device identifier recognized immediately before in the system log information in the reset release state as a device identifier of the target equipment to be investigated if the former system log information is determined to be different from the latter.
